Grammar question

If I plan to introduce activities to my students in the form of "I like ____" "I don't like _____," should I use the infinitive or gerund form of the verb? In other words, which will give the kids a better foundation for eventually conjugating and using the verb:

"I like to run (to play basketball, to watch tv, etc)."
"I like running (playing basketball, watching tv, etc."

Use the gerund. Then you can have them restate "I like playing basketball." to "Playing basketball is fun." This is off the top of my head with no credible expertise.

I'd say use the infinitive. It's more similar to the French infinitives, which might give them an easier basis of translation.
